3 out of 5 stars Decent.... Just   April 19, 2010
Mr. C. J. P. Keane (Birmingham, UK)
Unlike the first 2 movies I had my reservations about this one, I enjoed the first 2 a great deal even though they followed the same overall plot of many filler/canon episodes, a land in turmoil and enslavery, Naruto & turn up, fight equals and save the day.... it's a typical occurrence in Naruto and this movie is no different.

The main problem is there's about 2 acts to the movie, the first is about 40 mins long and involves Naruto, Sakura, Kakashi and Rock Lee escorting a prince and his son back to his Father's Kingdom, we see the fault of the prince and how his lifestyle is spoiling his son, which naruto takes upon himself to bestow upon the boy his usual sense of Morals.

Once this is out of the way they make their way back to the Moon Kingdom only to find the city in Turmoil, one of the kings Confidantes has overthrown him and has a team of Ninja under his command, the problem is their motives are never really given. But that's not really Important, there's some great fight scenes between Team Kakshi and The Rogue Ninjas, and thankfully it's not all straightforward. Yes lee has a few lines in the whole film from start to end, but he still gets to pull of some Amazing fight sequences (Doesn't he always?)

The DVD has the usual choice of either Audio track or subtitles, unlike the previous movies there are no Naruto Short Animations this time, there are some behind the scenes making of featurettes with some comments from Kari Walhgren and Maile Flanagan.

Serious fans following the events of the Manga may want to avoid, but filler Junkies like me will enjoy this more than some of the episodes arcs.

Considering the quality of the previous two Naruto movies, I wasn't expecting much from `Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom' but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The film sees Naruto, Kakashi, Sakura and Rock Lee sent on a mission to protect the prince of the Crescent Moon Kingdom and his spoiled son. When they get to the princes home however they find that the King has been overthrown leaving Naruto and his friend to restore the rightful rulers.

While this movie does have a tendency to be moralistic and overly sentimental it is still relatively entertaining and is a lot better than most of the main series god-awful filler episodes. The animation is good (the petrifaction in particular being very well done), with some nice fights, and the English dub is on a par with that of the series and while the plot does have some pacing issues it is still interesting.

The film isn't without its problems though as alongside the pacing issues I have already mentioned I didn't like the somewhat unnecessary opening monologue and I felt that some characters feel underused (especially Rock Lee). As well as this, while the plot is interesting, it does seem a bit light and struggles to stretch across the entire runtime of the film.

`Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom' is definitely the best of the three Naruto movies and I feel that any fan of Naruto should enjoy this film despite its faults.
